Residents at Juniper Village were evacuated from their homes this morning after an apparent furnace malfunction, according to authorities. According to county dispatchers, the call for assistance at the North Huntingdon Township facility was received at 6:47 a.m. Reports indicate the residents were able to return to their residences by 9 a.m. The Tribune-Review has more details.

Of the dozen electronic signs flashing messages around North Huntingdon, half of them sprouted up in the past year along Route 30. Planning Director-Engineer Andy Blenko told the planning commission Monday night it will only get worse unless the township revamps its vague, outdated sign ordinance. Board members agreed and made a unanimous recommendation for commissioners to place a moratorium on new electronic signs until a new section of the ordinance is written. Last night, the school board questioned the integrity of split-face concrete blocks on the exterior of the new Hahntown building and other issues involving site drainage, flooring and placement of the baseball field.
