Norwin graduate killed by IED blast in Iraq
Air Force Staff Sgt. David Wieger, a 1997 graduate of Norwin High School, died Thursday in Iraq along with another airman and an Air Force civilian near Balad Air Base when the Humvee they were riding in struck an improvised explosive device, according to the Department of Defense.
N. Huntingdon man sentenced for threatening wife
A Westmoreland County judge on Friday said she believed a North Huntingdon man would kill his estranged wife when he got out of prison, so she made sure he won't see freedom for the next two decades. Ronald Ickes, 38, of Westmoreland City was sentenced on 15 counts in connection with oral and written threats he made against his wife and her new boyfriend.

Turnovers key to Woodland Hills defeat
The Knights were forced to overcome four turnovers and a fired up opponent Friday to post their first home playoff victory when they rallied to defeat Woodland Hills, 29-14, in a WPIAL Class AAAA first-round game.
