Memories of a police dog

Of all that happened to me while working for the North Huntingdon Police, this event never left my memory.

Major was a police dog, Major was a good dog--no I take that back he was a great big lovable dog, and smart.

His handler was away, police cars patroled his home every shift and took him for bathroom walks. About 2 AM one morning a neighbor called saying Major had jumped out of the upstairs window and was patroling Penn’s Woods. I dispatched cars to the area.

Major was easy to find, first police car that came along, he ran up to it and hopped in, he thought he was going on a call. He came to the police station, but would not stay in the duty room, refused to get into a cell.

Left on his own, he chose to be under my desk in the radio room. Well’s here’s it. It was pouring down rain that night, Major was soaking wet. His comfort zone those 5 hours was laying under my desk, listen to police radios, drying out, sleeping, and making me smell just like him.

Couldn’t wait to get home and into the shower. That's my police dog story.
