One parent said he felt "bamboozled" Monday night after the Norwin School Board approved the list of fall sports coaches, including the reappointment of the varsity girls soccer coaches whom some parents have petitioned against for the second consecutive year.

Audience members said they were confused by the board's actions last night and did not realize directors voted, 6-3, to retain veteran head soccer coach Dana Ferry and his assistant, Troy Shasko. Another assistant coach, Lori Havrisko, also was approved, the Tribune-Review reports.

How do parents file a complaint with the PIAA over an eligibilty rule that is discriminatory. Does anyone know....how can a student be in all academic classes have all his credits and be on the honor roll yet not be eligable due to only having 3.5 credits during a semester at school......how do you attempt to change the dicriminatory practice of the Pa Interscholastic Association....

Explain how Norwin had (9) WPIAL All Star players in their starting (11) on the 2005 team and got knocked out of the WPIAL playoffs in the quarterfinal round losing 1-0 to Ambridge thereby not even making the PIAA playoff bracket that year.

Those (9) 2005 WPIAL All Stars were:

Sam Dankovich,Senior Fullback

Sam Gilarski,Senior Goalkeeper

Erika Haitz,Senior Fullback

Noelle Lyons,Senior Midfielder

Shannen Lyons,Senior Midfielder

Ashley Miller,Senior Forward

Alex Shasko,Senior Midfielder

Jill Miller,Junior Forward

Jessica Sharik,Sophomore Forward

The only two starters that didn't make WPIAL All Star in 2005 were Jamie Warren, (Sophomore Center Back), and Megan Duncan (Junior Midfielder). Two very good players regardless of not making it in 2005. Proven by the fact they both made WPIAL All Star in 2006.

So the question becomes how do you have (9) of the best players in the WPIAL in your starting line-up in 2005, the remaining (2) starters only one year away from that honor, a bench deep with talent, and not even get to the WPIAL finals or qualify for the PIAA playoffs?

In addition how is that year, when Norwin had all those all stars, they also had booster spending of around $50,000, they took the team to the best team camp in the country, they had (5) assistant coaches on the sidelines for every game, and still did nothing in the playoffs when the competition was the toughest?

The answer to both of these questions is quite clear.

The head coach, Dana Ferry, has no idea what to do with the talent, booster funding, assistant coach support, and community support he gets handed to him every year.

Time to look elsewhere for a head coach Norwin. This guy has proven year after year that you will never get back from him anything close to what your community puts into this program.

Because, and this is just a guess, other areas have good players too?
Yes, thats right people. All the other kids don't suck when compared to yours, there is talent in other places.

Especially the ones you meet in the playoffs.
"OMG We lost a game fire fire fire, kill that coach and burn the backup striker! "

You can't win them all unless you are Terrelle Pryor, but you can set a good example to the kids by not whining and kicking and screaming and crying about it as an adult.

Good season, better luck next year kids.

Please tell me that all those wonderful resources weren't wasted!
Is this information public knowledge?

Can these All Star players and the team record for 2005 be verified?

Can any coach (past or present) refute any of these statements?

Was the Norwin School Board aware of these facts prior to reinstating
this coach?

To waste the enormous talent pool that this team obviously possessed!

To waste that amount of money that surely took a tremendous effort by
the boosters to raise!

I've been taught that the buck stops with the head coach on any team
PERIOD!

If these statements are true, the Norwin School District should review
their decision.

Open Letter to the Editor…

The efforts of the 22 parents who sat patiently waiting through last Monday night’s Norwin school board meeting proved to be a lesson in futility. The parents believed they could trust the process of raising concerns about a coach and that their concerns would be heard by the powers that be. What these parents failed to realize is that there is no way to beat the back door antics of school board politicians. Gathering the support of nearly 500 Norwin residents and voters and having others express their support in a letter writing campaign was not enough to overcome the bonds of friendship with some board members. Hunting trips, sporting events, and summer vacations went far to cement a relationship that could only influence those school board members as they cast their votes to retain the soccer coach. Although loyalty to friends is admirable it is more than inappropriate in a decision making process. These naive parents and voters came to realize that only three members of the board, Mr. Rutkowski. Mr. Nofli and Mrs. Gediminskas, addressed their concerns because they respect their oath to represent the entire Norwin community. In closing, the lesson learned on Monday need not be lost. The residence and voters will have an opportunity not only thank these three school directors but will also have their voices heard in the next school board election.

It has been said that the lady Knights played a harder section this year

from what I have seen for many years the Lady Knights have played,

Penn Trafford, Pine-Richland, and Mount Lebenon and not until recently

have we ever been beaten that bad. The worst was Upper St. Clair when

we were loosing 5-0 and the frustration on Mr. Ferry face could be seen

from the stands, he had no idea what to do. And let it be known that

one of the coaches for Upper St. Clair, who was let go from Norwin

in 2007 knew exactly how to beat us. Mt. Lebebon, was another joke

when it was apparent by his frustration. The young ladies that LOVE

soccer, play their entire youth in hopes of becoming a LADY KNIGHT

only to have their dreams quenched by these coaches. It truly is a

TRAVESTY. Their are multiple young ladies that have been told they are

not good enough to play but somehow play in college, the truth is

Dana Ferry is not good enough to COACH. JUST ACCEPT THIS AND STEP DOWN.

As for the School Board we can't wait until next ELECTIONS.

I have no respect whatsoever for him. He was the reason my son resigned from coaching. I could scream when I see he is still a coach. He should have been fired a very long time ago.
