HANSEL AND GRETEL FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT SONSHINE KITCHEN
Tags:
"When past bearing has our grief, God our Lord sends relief"âŠis one of the lines from Humperdinck's opera, HĂ€nsel and Gretel and is one of the messages of his version of the well known tale. Itâs our hope that many of you will come see our musical production. I have noticed that many children have not yet heard the story so perhaps you will bring them.
Because the poignancy of the story of HĂ€nsel and Gretel is still felt today, Youngtimers will be holding a food drive in conjunction with this production. The drive will go to support the Sonshine Kitchen in McKeesport. We Youngtimers are hoping that many will want to come see our production and at the same time lend a helping hand to those who are in need. It's our vision that those volunteers participating in Youngtimersâ productions will consider themselves philanthropists. Thus we starving artists are seeking to feed not only our own stomachs and souls but those of others as well.

Being presented at the "Old Church" theater is probably one of the most Artistic Events for a hurting community, including me, who lives daily with good and evil. Maybe when the church people left the building perhaps the spirit of God remained.
Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm was born in Hanau, Germany in 1785. His 209 stories of folklore (tales) were translated by Margaret Hunt, and her translations are told now, in 2008, throughout the English speaking world.

Parents who do not understand the conceptual importance of good and evil in their lives, will not buy or borrow Grimmâs tales for their children.
In âCreative Writingâ we were expected to interject emotions into our writings. When I became a ghost writer for people who are MRDD I tried to bring their emotional insides out.
Emotions for them transcend the everyday lives of people who are not MRDD. In my first writing, co workers at the MRDD agency, where I worked, read my story. Everyone laughed and everyone cried. Ironically they apologized for crying, but not laughing. I thanked them for crying and explained that is what my short story was intended too do. While dabbing away at their tears, they thanked me for helping them understand good and evil.
Many adult MRDD are read stories and when possible are taught to read Grimmâs Tales. Simplifying Nietzsche; dealing with emotions is necessary.
Adults who are MRDD have reactions, behavior problems, and do not always understand why this is so anymore than it is for staff .
It was easier for me since I too have a disability and my people understood I was like them not the non-disabled. I would sit with them, cry with them, and show them love without touching them--never once did I go away feeling unloved.
