Optional Non-Educational Trip for Norwin Band
So the band wants to go to Disney for an OPTIONAL vacation during the school
year at a cost of around $900 per student. I'm guessing that chaperones
will have to pay that same amount. What parent wouldn't want to go with
their child if the band is footing the bill? The way I understand it, each
student has the option of fundraising to pay their own way, just pay the
cash or decide that he or she doesn't want to go. When my kids wanted to go
on a vacation during the school year, there were quite a few hoops to jump
through to say the least. To my knowledge, that hasn't changed. I hope
that the band aides aren't considering free rides to anyone that wants to go
as a chaperone. If the band aides don't have the resources to get the band
where they want to go, then I think the chaperones need to pay their own
way. I also think if it's optional with no educational value other than an
update on the latest at the Magic Kingdom, this trip shouldn't even be
considered. It's been tradition that they go every other year but with the
financial woes of last year, I think it's time for traditional to change.
