Murrysville Dek Hockey Weekend Information and Week 9 Results
The Murrysville Dek Hockey League held it’s Murrysville Dek Hockey Weekend of its Winter Session. More than 180 players participate in the Chipmunk Division (Ages 6 and under), Penguin Division (Ages 7-9) and Beaver Division (Ages 10-12) in developmental and competitive Dek Hockey. Instructional Clinics are held every Saturday at and Noon. We will crown the champions in the Chipmunk, Penguin and Beaver Divisions.

Participants in the program from Franklin Regional, Gateway, Plum, Woodland Hills, East Allegheny, Norwin, Penn Trafford, Latrobe, Greensburg Salem, Kiski, Apollo Ridge and Jeannette are participating in the program. Registration for the Spring 2008 Session will be held on Saturday & Sunday February 9th, 10th, 16th & 17th at the Murrysville Dek Hockey Sportszone.. Register at the Murrysville Dek or Online on the Murrysville Dek Hockey Web Site at www.padekhockey.com [2] OR stop by Murrysville Sportszone (2989 School Road South) for registration form. For more information, call MDHC at 724-325-2244. Cost is $ 65 & includes a jersey for every player & is a minimum of 10 games including playoffs. Player of the Week - Beaver Division [10-12]
10 Ryan Watson Beaver Gold
Ryan Watson carried the Gold team defensively for a better part of the Winter Season and with some help from his goaltender and defensive partners yielded only 26 goals in 14 games of regular season and playoffs. The Beaver Gold team held off a red hot White team in the Championship Game and it was their defensive effort that earned them the Championship 3-2 in overtime over White.

Player of the Week – Penguin Division [7-9]
17 Jamie Mauro Penguin Blue
Putting up impressive numbers has been Jamie Mauro’s fortay in the Penguin Division, but this season may have been the most impressive as he led undefeated Blue to a thrilling overtime win with the overtime game winner over a tough Orange Squad 2-1. In three playoff games, Jamie led all scorers with 11 goals and 1 assist and also contributed to a solid defensive effort.

Congratulations to Ryan Watson and Jamie Mauro for Player of the Week honors !

Beaver Division [10-12]
Saturday February 9th
CHAMPIONSHIP
Beaver Gold 3 Beaver White 2 Beaver OT
Highlights: Beaver Gold and Beaver White had a terrific game to end the regular season and the teams were back at it with the Beaver Championship on the line. Tyler Watson scored his 2nd goal of the game at 3:43 of overtime after nice work by Austin Avampato to work the ball to the front of the net to give Gold the Beaver crown 3-2 over White. Both goaltenders Corey White of Gold and Bryce Lauer of White were spectacular in between the pipes for their teams. Austin Avampato scored a goal and added two assists, while White’s Nicco Cecere scored twice.

SEMI-FINALS
Beaver White 3 Beaver Red 2
Highlights: Beaver White advanced to the Finals with a hard fought 3-2 win over Beaver Red. Nicco Cecere scored twice and Jake Stackiewicz scored a shorthanded goal while goaltender Bryce Lauer was stellar for White. Matt Kerna and Christian Tierno scored and Max Zahrobsky was outstanding in goal for Red.
Beaver Gold 7 Beaver Blue 0 Beaver
Highlights: Beaver Gold finished in the top spot in the Division for a reason and they showed why with a 7-0 drubbing of Blue. Leading Scorer Austin Avampato led the attack with two goals and four assists, while John Bosack scored twice and Ryan Collette, Ryan Watson, and Alex Organ scored as well and Corey White earned the shutout including several spectacular save early in the contest.

Penguin Division [7-9]
PENGUIN CHAMPIONSHIP
Penguin 2=Blue 2 Penguin 9 = Orange 1 Penguin OT
Highlights: The Penguin Championship featured the two highest scoring teams, but both of those teams play some pretty good defense as well throughout the season. Penguin Orange struck first at 2:21 of the second period as Nolen Puhala made a terrific play to keep the ball in the zone and fire a low shot on net and in to give Orange a 1-0 lead. Penguin Blue’s offense was stymied until with 6:34 to go in regulation Dave Soltesz won the ball to the front of the net and Kyle Novak pounced on the rebound to tie the game at one apiece. Both goaltenders Blue’s Danny Soltesz and Orange’s Jared Millstein play tremendous sending the game to overtime. With 3:51 to go in overtime, the Penguin Division’s scoring leader Jamie Mauro got a loose ball and from his knees buried a wrist shot past Millstein to give Blue the title with a heartstopping 2-1 victory over Orange.

Saturday February 9th
SEMI-FINALS
ORANGE 4 GRAY 3 Penguin
Highlights: Penguin Orange built a 3-0 lead on Gray, but Gray rallied to tie the score 3-3 with 10 seconds left in the second period. With Orange shorthanded, Nolen Puhala lofted a backhander which deflected off a Gray defensive player and past the Gray goaltender with 3:42 to go to give Orange a spot in the finals with a 4-3 thriller over Gray. Ryan Collette scored and hat trick for Orange, while Nick Caretta, Nathan Bateman and BryanPatrick Farren scored for Gray.

BLUE 8 RED 2 Penguin
Highlights: Penguin Blue spotted Red the opening goal and then went on a terror scoring an 8-2 semi-final win. Jamie Mauro scored six goals and Bradley Brncic and Kyle Novak added scores for Blue. Tyler Giles and Jason Cerniglia scored for Red.

QUARTER-FINALS
RED 4 MAROON 3 Penguin 4 vs 5 SO 3-1
Highlights: Penguin Red and Maroon battled through three period and overtime to decide a winner and Red won the shootout 3-1 to advance. Jason Cerniglia, Gavin Fusting and Tyler Stevenson scored in the shootout and Tyler Giles scored a pair and Cerniglia a tally in regulation, while goaltender Josh Heberle was outstanding in the shootout. Tyler Watson scored a hat trick for Maroon and Matt Pulsifer scored in the shootout.

PURPLE 1 GRAY 5 Penguin 3 vs 6
Highlights: Penguin Gray was strong late in the season and carried their momentum right into the playoffs with an impressive 5-1 win over Purple. Nick Caretta and Nathan Bateman scored twice and Michael Smith another for Gray, while Maxx Mastermonico hut down the Purple attack. Joey Goldstein scored for Purple.

ORANGE 6 GREEN 0 Penguin 2 vs 7
Highlights: Penguin Orange made quick work of Green with a 6-0 victory. Ryan Collette scored four times and Nolen Puhala a pair and Jared Millstein earned the shutout for Orange.

BLUE 5 GOLD 2 Penguin 1 vs 8
Highlights: Penguin Blue let Gold hang around for a couple of periods and then woke up scoring a 5-2 win. Jamie Mauro scored four times and Bradley Brncic added another and Danny Soltesz played well in goal for Blue. Nick Bernard scored both goals for Gold.

Friday February 8th
PRELIMINARY ROUND
GREEN 2 WHITE 1 Penguin 7 vs 10
Highlights: Jake Stackiewicz scored his 2nd goal of the game with 1:59 to go to give Penguin Green a 2-1 victory and Max Jakiela allowed only one goal to White’s Brady Geyer.

GOLD 2 BLACK 1 Penguin 8 vs 9
Highlights: Gold’s Jake Lauer scored with 3:01 to go to give Gold a 2-1 victory over Black. Nick Bernard also scored and Bryce Lauer was outstanding in goal for Gold. Alexi Mance scored for Black.

Chipmunk Division [6-U]
Chipmunk Gold 3 Chipmunk Blue 2 Chipmunk
Highlights: The Chipmunk Division of the Murrysville Dek Hockey League enjoyed its best ever season as each of the participants learned a great deal over the Winter Season. Chipmunk Gold rallied for a 3-2 victory and captured the Chipmunk title. Jeffrey Anderchak, Alex Turowski and Justin ‘Scooby’ Haines scored for Gold while David Tamino and Jack Seiber scored for Blue in a great game in the frigid conditions on the Dek.
