The Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association hosted the Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at Penn State University.
Leading the way for the Knights was Mike Steffenino, who placed second in the pole vault after clearing 15 feet, 6 inches.
Other Norwin highlights included: Shelby Haitz took 20th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.05. Jenna Gigliotti was eighth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:40.64.
The girls 4x400-meter relay finished 23rd with a time of 4:06.95.
Dave Farina was 25th in the 800-meter relay with a time of 2:01.72.
Penn-Trafford's James Gnecco placed 12th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.59.
Aqua Club
Norwin Aqua Club members attended the BB Championships last month at Chartiers Valley Swim Club.
Placing were: Jenna Kuhn, who took fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke in the senior women division.
Maria Palmquist, who was fourth in the 200 back and fifth in the 200 IM in the senior women division, as well as fifth in the 100 free in the 13-14 division; and Joe Kuhn, who was third in the 200 back and fourth in the 100 back in the senior men's division.
Gymnastics
Members of the local Highlanders of Westmoreland Gymnastics team competed at the Stars and Stripes Invitational. In level seven, Delmont's Caroline Houston, 11, placed first in the vault, second in floor, fifth in beam and sixth in all-around.
North Huntington resident Kasey Kemp, 13, finished first in floor, bars and all-around, in addition to taking third in beam and vault.
In level nine, Danielle Plecenik, 17, of North Huntingdon, placed third in vault, floor and all-around, fourth in beam and fifth in bars.
3-on-3 basketball
The Norwin Letterwinners' Club will host a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on Saturday at the Norwin High School gymnasium.
Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. and the tournament will start at 1 p.m. Teams must pay $40 and have signatures from parents or guardians to enter.
Players will call their own fouls, but there will be monitors to settle disputes and keep score.
All proceeds will benefit the David Nelson Scholarship Fund. David was a Norwin Middle School student who died two years ago while playing basketball.
His parents, Jeff and Lori, hope to award multiple scholarships in 2010, which was his graduating class.

On campus
Norwin graduate Kayla Hilko was selected as an honorable mention to the Presidents' Athletic Confer-ence Women's Basketball All-Conference Team last week.
The freshman guard/forward at Chatham College was recognized for her contributions to the local school this season.
Soap box derby
The All-American Soap Box Derby will hold a race June 22 in McKeesport for boys and girls ages 8 to 17.
To enter, racers must build a car from a kit purchased from the All-American Soap Box Derby and pass a pre-race safety and construction inspection.
The top three winners in each age group and division will earn college scholarships and the first place winners will represent Mckeesport at the national race.
