Like the 1980 USA Miracle on Ice Team before them, the Allegheny Lady Badgers U19 team shocked a heavily favored team in the semifinals of the PAHL playoffs.
The Lady Badgers, based at Center Ice Arena in Delmont, beat their version of "the Russians," the Amateur Penguins, 3-2, in a sudden death, double overtime, thriller.
Goals were scored by Christy Pastucha and Lisa Bac.
Lexi Scozio scored the game-winner in double overtime. Lauren Devlin and Alyssia Ong posted assists.
The Lady Badgers then went on to win the PAHL Women's U19 Championship against a talented, equally matched, Altoona team, 2-1.
Bac again contributed a goal for the Lady Badgers, with the final goal made by Mackenzie McGuire. Goalie Maria Sciacca stopped a total of 66 shots during the two games.
