Twenty-two athletes from the Pennsylvania Shotokan Karate Club, based in Level Green, competed in the USA National Karate-do Federation regional qualifier last month in Charleston W. Va.
PSKC won 35 medals -- 19 gold, eight silver and eight bronze.
All 22 athletes are eligible to compete in the upcoming USA National Karate-do Federation National Championships to be held in Houston, Texas, July 18 to 20.
Standouts in the competition were Jake Verrilli, Ziah Baldis, Jessica Leveille, Bianca Terente, Clifford Krey and Tia Leary, who all won gold in both the Kata (series of moves in a set pattern) and Kumite (point fighting).
Other PSKC athletes that won medals and qualified for the National championship were David Lipton, Sammy Botta, Michael Cox, Blake Cordes, Elio Dapos, Camron Deiss, Dimitri Gary, Pavel Grebenyuk, Geoffrey Magin, Tim Lynch, Carrington Motley, Jared Smith, Riley Smith, Samantha Kelly, Zachary Kelly and Eric Nelson.
An estimated 3,500 athletes from across the nation will be competing in the national championships, recognized by the Olympic committee.
