Local PAL teams square off

Powderpuff softball

• Level Green Plumbing and Heating Grasshoppers played to a 10-10 tie with Italian Miners Society on May 4.

Dannon Johnson had a great outing at third base, and Madyson Dembowski had an awesome game, as well.

• Italian Miners Society edged Fix's Body Shop, 4-3, on May 6.

Kendyl Kranitz and Savannah Summerville were stars for Italian Miners Society, with Kendyl Kranitz getting the game ball. Alexis Kendro was the star for Fix's.

• On May 7, Belak Flowers narrowly defeated St. Joseph's Polish Club, 10-9.

The rain showers didn't bother these tough girls. A lot of nice plays and hits were made by both teams.Mia Hanley from St. Josephs Polish Club had a great line drive. Maura Gabauer from Belak Flowers had an awesome game with two outs.

Intermediate softball

• On May 3, John Morrow Associates Bees beat the Muckdogs, 15-4. The Muckdogs were led by the pitching of Madison Maccerelli. The Bees got solid pitching from Alyssa Luptak and good at bats from Carli Polcynski, who went 4 for 4. Mikala Sudy was strong in the field at first base. Kassidy Battiste walked away with the game ball for her work at shortstop.

Junior softball

• On May 4, Cal's Cantina Bar & Grill edged Baierl Acura Bees, 11-9. Cal's was led by the strong hitting of Haley Pontia, Alex Patter and Kelsey Butler, who had a home run to clinch the game. The Bees responded with Lydia MiGnogna, Ashley Rae and Brittany Rubright all hitting the ball well.

• S&A Homes beat Cal's Cantina Bar & Grill, 18-9, on May 5. Taylor Jones hit two homers and a double in the win, and Mia Gilroy hit a triple and one single.

For Cal's, Ashley Malerbo had a double and two singles, and Kelsey Butler had one double and a single.

• S&A Homes Scrappers defeated Baierl Acura Bees, 13-5, on May 11.

Taylor Jones slammed a home run and two singles for the Scrappers, while teammates Ashley Kirsch hit a triple and two singles and Dani Waugh had a double and a single. The Bees fought back with Kira Baierl smacking a home run, a double and a single. Jessica Vanishak hit three singles, and Lydia Mignogna had three hits.

Senior softball

• Nancy's Family Hair Designs defeated Beisler Attorney Offices, 12-9, on May 6.

Katie Beisler and Jessica Dinkfelt each had two hits, including a double. Kaylan Reno and Jessica Rae each had four hits for the winning Rattlers.

• On May 7, Hohman Plumbing and Heating Scrappers edged Campbell's Sunoco Mudcats, 13-12. Sam Vais, Breann Paul and Carrie Smith had three hits each for the Scrappers. Carrie Smith hit a home run and drove in the winning run.

Angie Russo, Amanda Calabro and Kacey Leonard had three hits in defeat.

Fastpitch softball

• In 10-and-under Eastern League fast-pitch action on April 30, PAL's Dancin' J's Studio beat Plum, 10-2.

Hannah O'Block led the PAL team with a home run and three runs, in addition to striking out nine batters in three innings. Madison Wedge added a triple, and Megan Dodd and Kelsey Bohman scored three times.

• On May 7, PAL Dancin' J's Studio defeated Monroeville, 10-2.

Megan Dodd and Hannah O'Block each tripled. Riley Miller had two hits, and scoring three times each were Kelsey Bohman, Erin Crust and Miller.

Pinto baseball

• Nelson Tire and Service defeated Wayne Homes Red Sox, 16-12, on May 2.

Tyler Hines was 4 for 4 at the plate and scored four runs for the Nelson Tire and Service White Sox as the team secured its first victory of the season over the Red Sox of Wayne Homes.

Alex Gibala sparked a fifth inning rally with a leadoff single. Jack Driscoll turned in some fancy glove work for the White Sox, while Evan Kochasic and Kyle Chismar paced the attack of the Red Sox with four hits.

• Level Green Plumbing and Heating beat Computer Medix, 17-11, on May 3.

The LGPH Indians started out the game on fire by hitting the ball all over the field. Good defensive plays by the Orioles' Carson Shipley and Josh McKinley held the Indians scoreless through the first. The Indians answered with their own defense.

Great hitting by the Indians' Conner Mastelerz and Alex Simak, who scored every at bat, led to a 17-11 Indians' win. Gianni Rizzo was recognized for his triple play in a previous game against Winchester Room Royals.

• Advanticom Inc. Yankees beat Nelson Tire Service White Sox, 20-13, on May 3.

It was a great game full of heavy hitters. For the White Sox, Donovan Francis led off going 4 for 4. Billy Baglio tried to pull off the win with a sixth-inning inside-the-park home run, but the Yankees stayed strong with the hot bats of Jason Miller, Mark Conboy, Gage Luptak, Tyler Barry and Adam Cholodofsky all going 4 for 4. Jordan Rudolph added to the hits going 3 for 3.

• Wayne Homes Red Sox defeated Larimer VFD Rays, 17-15, on May 5.

The Sox jumped out to big leads while the Rays battled back several times but fell just short in the end. Stars for the game included the Red Sox's Evan Kochasic with another multihit game, including a double, and Andrew Martin, who scored three runs. For the Rays, Colin Choby hit a two-run home run.

• Drew Menas Restaurant and Lounge scored a 14-1 win over hosthabitat.com on May 5.

Leading hitters for Drew Menas's lineup were Max Redovan at 3 for 3 and Cory Breegle blasting a three-run homer over the 276-foot fence. First-year pitchers Luke Haines and Luke Sige silenced the hosthabitat.com bats. Josh Prines scored the lone run for hosthabitat.com.

• Winchester Room Royals edged Flynn's Tire and Auto Blue Jays, 15-13.

The Royals and Blue Jays traded the lead five times, and the Royals were able to hold on to a two-run lead in the bottom of the sixth to win the season opener.

The Royals were led offensively by Chris Wallace, Jake Vinsick and Kenny Divens, who all were 4 for 4. The Blue Jays got offense from Brady Sigut, 4 for 4, and Scott Yurek, Josh Nelson, Ryan Clair and Nate Pawluk, all 3 for 4.

• On May 7, Advanticom Athletics beat Level Green Plumbing and Heating Indians, 11-5. The game was highlighted by some great hitting from A's players Nick Lagnese, with two doubles and three runs scored, and Matt Schaich, with solid hitting.

Once again, the A's defense, led by Josh Hough, was stellar with great put-outs by Josh Vaughn. The Indians struggled at the plate with Jake Williams and Alex Fleet leading the way with two hits each.

• Advanticom defeated Larimer VFD, 5-2, on May 10 in a defensive game.

For Advanticom, Adam Cholodofsky had three hits and three runs scored. Josh Cahill and Gage Luptak had two hits each.

For Larimer VFD, Josh Clingensmith and Zach Zydel had three singles apiece, and Mike Gongaware and Noah Gross each added a single.

• Pizza and Gyro Express Mariners narrowly defeated Quest Diagnostics Athletics, 7-6, on May 10.

Standouts for the A's were Zach DiPerna with a single and a run scored, Logan Bricker with a single and a run scored, Josh Hough with a single and some fine defensive plays, and Nick Rigone with a run scored.

Stars for the Mariners were Owen Sabol with two hits, two runs scored and some fine defensive plays in the infield, Jake Smetak with a double and a run scored, and Nick

Viceli with a double and a run scored.

• Flynn's Tire & Auto Blue Jays edged Computer Medix Orioles, 15-10, on May 10 in a battle of evenly matched teams. Dalton Rendulic, Robbie Ackerman and Jake Cardiff went 4 for 4 for the Orioles, and Ray Yanez got the game ball for several great cathes.

Ryan Clair made an excellent catch in the outfield to rob Justin Kucera. Ben Krygowski, Nate Pawluk and Brady Sigut went 4 for 4 for the Jays.

• On May 10, Level Green Plumbing and Heating Indians beat Winchester Room Royals, 25-15. The Indians scored 18 runs in the last three innings to defeat the Royals. The leading hitters for the Indians were Josh Ratesic with five hits and Matt Bilinsky and Gianni Rizzo with four hits each. The Royals were led by Connor Zimmerman, A.J. Detore and Jaret Jarosz with three hits apiece.

Mustang baseball

• On May 4, Baierl Acura Dodgers beat DelleFemine Landscaping Cardinals, 11-7.

Alex Sinagra and Noah Rady both scored two runs, and Anthony DelleFemine, Jarrod Harkins and Tyler Klass each scored one run for the Cardinals. But it was not enough to defeat the Dodgers, led by Dan Columbus and Nate Salera scoring twice and Brandon Arendas, Joe Kusserow, Grant Saunders, Mitchell Pfeifer, Justin Baierl, Nate Mehring and Cody Solar each scoring once.

• North Huntingdon Township Police beat Norwin Agency on May 4, 8-5.

Nik Clifford went 2 for 2 with a single and a double, Gage McCracken had a double, and Dominic Foster added a triple in a winning effort for NHTPD.

Remington Lojas and Steven Petrick each had a triple and a single for Norwin Agency.

• On May 5, Norwin Agency defeated Duncan Financial Group, 12-2.

Norwin Agency was led to victory by Steven Petrick with a single and a triple, Zain Anderson added a couple of singles and four RBIs, and John Henry Thomas broke out of an early slump to hit a couple of singles.

Nathan Duncan had a couple of singles, and James Baker added a single for Duncan Financial Group in the loss.

• NHTPD edged Dr. Carla Capozzi Orthodontics Rockies, 3-2, on May 10.

The Cubs were led by Dante Rizzo, who went 2 for 2 on the night with a big two-run home run over the center field fence. Gage McCracken, Tyler Ayers and Zane Varner collected hits for the Cubs.

Luke Whalen and Darian Morgan collected hits for the Rockies. The tale of the game was pitching, but the Cubs were able to hold on behind strong performances from Nick Clifford, Jack Knapton, Dante Rizzo and Gage McCracken.
