Author to visit Norwin library this Saturday

Author Katherine Ayres will be at the Norwin Public Library at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Ayers is the author of books including "Family Tree," "North by Night: A Story of the Underground Railroad," "Under Copp's Hill," "A Long Way" and "Up, Down and Around," which was selected as the 2008 Pennsylvania One Book.

The library is at 100 Caruthers Lane in Irwin.

Memorial Day parade set

Irwin and North Huntingdon VFW Memorial Day Committee has announced the timeline for its annual Memorial Day parade.

The parade will start at 10 a.m. on May 26, with parade participants assembling near Church of the Immaculate Conception, Second and Oak streets in Irwin, at 9 a.m.

Chicken barbecue

Stewartsville Lions Club of North Huntingdon will hold a chicken barbecue on May 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Holiday Travel, across from Norwin Towne Square.

Passport fair

Irwin post office will sponsor a passport fair on May 24 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Norwin Public Library.

Applicants are asked to bring a current photo identifcation and their original birth certificate. Children under 16 must have both parents present. The cost for a passport is $75 for adults and $60 for children under 16, payable by check to the U.S. Department of State.

An additional fee of $25 should be paid by check to the U.S. Postal Service. Photos cost $15 per set.

Caregivers support

A support group for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Redstone Highlands.

Plant sale

Irwin Garden Club will hold a plant sale Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the lower parking lot of the Norwin Public Library.

The sale will feature a variety of potted and small plants planted and grown by garden club members.
