Community run kicks off Queen of Angels event
To kick off its "Going for the Gold" dinner and auction, Queen of Angels Catholic School will hold its Parish-Community run on Sunday.
Starting at 7 a.m. at the Bishop Bosco Center parking lot, parents, grandparents and alumni will pass a torch in a 20-mile relay through North Huntingdon and Penn townships.
The route runs past St. Agnes, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Immaculate Concep-tion and St. Barbara churches, and finishes back at Queen of Angels. North Huntingdon police will escort the runners on their trek to ensure their safety.
Big band to perform
Wayne Macuga Big Band is coming to Irwin.
On April 10 at 7:30 p.m. the band will perform at the Covenant Hall for the Performing Arts.
Tickets are $8 in advance and $12 the day of the show. Tickets are available at Interiors by Woleslagle and Your Blessed Events in downtown Irwin and Mail Priority at the Norwin Hills Shopping Center.

Textbooks available for inspection
Textbooks recommended for adoption by Norwin School District for the 2008-2009 school year are available for public inspection in the board conference room of the Norwin Administrative Building.
The board will act on the recommendations at its regular monthly meeting on April 21.
Wildflower tours
North Huntingdon Township's annual spring wildflower tours at Braddock's Trail Park will start at 10 a.m. on April 10, 12, 17 and 19 and May 1, 3, 8 and 17.
The tour is free and begins from the Braddock's Trail parking lot. Warren Gardner, a local nature photographer and Norwin Superintendent John Bolyan will introduce visitors to 24 species of wildflowers.

Rabies clinic
Pet Friends Inc. will hold its spring rabies clinic from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Meet-A-Pet site at Norwin Towne Square in North Huntingdon.
For $8 per animal, owners can have their pet vaccinated against rabies. All pets must be leashed or in a crate.

Singles dance
Parents Without Partners will hold a singles dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Friday at the Hartford Heights Firehall in North Huntingdon.
A representative from H&R Block will speak on income tax changes and will answer tax questions from 7:30 to 8:15.

Boating course
Flotilla 92 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will offer a boating skills and seamanship course in White Oak.
Classes will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday and April 2, 7, 9, 14 and 16 at the Rainbow fire hall, Route 48.

Basket bash
The NOrwin High School Marching Band will sponsor a Longaberger basket bash on April 20 at Banquets Unlimited, 544 Caruthers Lane.
The cost is $20 per person and includes five chances on nine-filled Longaberger baskets and a catered buffet luncheon and dessert bar. Only 200 tickets will be sold.
