Family festival to salute parking meter

The Irwin Business and Professional Association is paying homage to the parking meter with a family festival, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday on Main Street in Irwin.

Five young women from the area are seeking the crown of Parking Meter Queen, which will be awarded at a crowning ceremony at 1:30 p.m. at the festival.

The contestants are Tami Gootz of Cafe Supreme, Tara Heckman of The Colonial Grille, Jennifer Cippolini of Workability/ Cheesecake Cafe, Judy Fidazzo of Queen of Angels Catholic School and Cindy Cochran of Blazers Fitness.

People are encourage to vote with change by donating coins and bills for their favorite contestant. Ballot boxes are at each establishment, and the contestant with the highest total will win the crown. All proceeds will go to a local charity.

The festival will feature parking meter themed food, races and other contests, such as the parking meter toss, meter decorating contest and a bake-off.
