Shanahan to take field for Big 33 game

The post-season honors continue to roll in for Norwin's standout senior wide receiver Mike Shanahan.

Since his season came to a close in the WPIAL quarterfinals, the awards and recognition have poured in for the 6-foot-5 pass catcher.

Shanahan was selected All-State, as well as first-team All-Quad South Conference as a wide receiver. He also was named a two-time East Elite member after catching 44 passes for 717 yards and 12 touchdowns this season.

One of the most sought-after recruits in the states in both football and basketball, Shanahan made a verbal commitment in late December to play football next fall for the University of Pittsburgh.

His latest honor was being picked to play for Pennsylvania in the 51st annual PNC Big 33 Football Classic.

The game, which is one of the most prestigious high school all-star games in the country, will be played on June 14 at Hershey Park Stadium and will feature a team of 34 Pennsylvania stars against an all-star squad from Ohio.

Other WPIAL players selected are Jonathan Baldwin (Aliquippa), Austin Fedell (North Allegheny), Robbie Gumbita (Mt. Pleasant), Shayne Hale (Gateway), Lucas Nix (Thomas Jefferson), Terrelle Pryor (Jeannette), Cameron Saddler (Gateway), Tino Sunseri (Central Catholic), Andrew Taglianetti (Central Catholic), Brandon Weaver (Trinity), Quentin Williams (Central Catholic), Christian Wilson (Montour) and Mike Yancich (Trinity).
