School taxes increase 1.1 mills

Norwin School Board approved a $53.7 million 2007-08 budget Monday night, but not all the members were pleased with a 1.1-mill increase in the real estate tax. Director Dennis Rittenhouse voiced his opposition to raising taxes for six of the past seven years last week and punctuated his stance by voting against the spending plan last night. Norwin taxpayers have seen their real estate taxes increase for the past seven years and at least one school director wants to see that trend reversed.
Poised to approve a budget financed in part with a 1.1-mill increase in the property tax levy next week, director Dennis Rittenhouse asked if the district would consider no tax increase in light of a healthy fund balance. The Tribune-Review has more details. read more »
